3 Ways to Spend the Last Weekend of Summer Vacation

Summer may not be officially over until mid-September – or the first cold snap in December, to be accurate – but for the kids in Palm Beach County, summer vacation comes to an abrupt end on Sunday.

If you’re looking for a way to squeeze the very last bit of fun out of summer, we have a few suggestions beyond the usual “beach day”:

1. Pool party! Why not salute the end of summer vacation with day at the pool? The North County Aquatic Complex (861 Toney Penna Drive) features a 50-meter pool and children’s wading area. Adults and kids 13+ and get in for $3.25+tax, while little ones 3-12 are $2.75+tax. (Infants and toddlers under 2 and under are free!) Your kids can keep cool and make a splash – plus you won’t have to vacuum beach sand out of your floor mats… again.

BONUS: Back-to-School Teen Pool Party – This free, teens-only event features food, photo booth, pool games, a DJ and more.

Friday, August 15 from  6-9 p.m.

2. Family picnic. There are plenty of parks, secluded green spaces and welcoming beaches for you to spread out a blanket and share some food and laughs with the family. If you prefer to picnic in the shade, check out the huts at Riverbend Park (9060 Indiantown Rd) or the sheltered pavilions at Ocean Cay Park (2188 Marcinski Rd.)

3. Game night. If your kids are into gaming, tell ‘em to put away the Playstation controllers and join you for a night of food and fun at Cheeseburgers & More (6770 W. Indiantown Rd). This family-friendly joint serves up a full menu of apps, burgers, salads, sandwiches and more – plus the space boasts a 7,000 square-foot game room with play area, arcade games and real prizes!
