4 Tips for Better Beach Yoga

If you’re itching to get out of the studio and practice yoga outdoors, what better place to be than on the beach, digging your toes into the sand as you salute the sun on a gorgeous Jupiter day?

Before you hit the sand to start your poses (asanas), heed these four helpful tips for getting the most out of your beach yoga practice:

1. Scope out the perfect spot. Before you choose your yoga spot, do a little scouting. Try to find a locale with that won’t get too crowded or noisy, so you can focus on your breathing and movement.

2. Bring your mat – and a towel, too. Your trusty yoga mat goes everywhere you go – for good reason. But on a beach, you’ll need a little extra traction to keep your mat from slipping in the sand.

3. Protect your skin. Even if you’re practicing at sunrise or on a cloudy day, it’s important  to protect your skin with sunblock to avoid uncomfortable burns. A wide-brimmed hat can be helpful for protecting your head and scalp from sun exposure.

4. Don’t be afraid to fall. Sand can easily give way, throwing you off balance and turning even your most-practiced poses into a challenge. Don’t be afraid to take a tumble or two – it’s all part of the experience!
