5 Reasons You Must Try Paddle Board Yoga

As if there weren’t enough acronyms to keep track of, now there’s a new one taking South Florida by storm: YOW!

It stands for yoga on the water, and although this practice has been around since the 1960s, it’s recently been making a lot of waves in Jupiter. (Figuratively, of course.) That’s because it’s typically practiced on a standup paddle board, floating in calm, peaceful water.

Sounds fun, right? Here are 5 reasons why you should try YOW now!

1. Ultimate refreshment.  Being out on a SUP on the water in a peaceful, hidden area tucked away from reality is the perfect way to relax, rejuvenate, and soak up some vitamin D.

2.  Excitement! While you’re attempting the poses, you’re also focusing on not falling in the water – (don’t worry, the SUPs are wide enough to allow yourself to balance, but falling in is always on the back burner).  It’s the perfect mix of relaxation and exhilaration to get your endorphins flowing.

3.  Two words: bucket list!  Shouldn’t you try everything at least once? Enough said.

4. New friends. Typically, yogis are peaceful, friendly, and helpful people.  With all the hustle and bustle of daily life, and all the people we deal with day in and day out at the office or on the kids’ soccer fields, couldn’t we use some yogis in our lives?

5. Work that core.  As I mentioned before, perfecting, or just attempting, your poses on a SUP on water requires more focus, balance, and core strength than in the studio.  The combination of tranquility from the salt water environment and the stretching from the yoga poses provides a very intense, yet calming workout.
